Understanding Obamacare

We know healthcare reform, and the Affordable Care Act, is complicated, and so do others. As they gear up with awareness campaigns to make it easier to understand, I plan to expand this resource list. Let me know of others we should add. And, if you’ve not yet decided on an insurance plan, I suggest you start with HealthCare.gov and the rest of the links below.

  • HealthCare.gov — This government website is managed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to help you take health care into your own hands. Healthcare.gov. From there you can find your state health insurance exchange so you can compare insurance options. You can also learn about prevention compare care quality, and better understand the law.
  • Healthcare.love — A mobile app that simplifies and highlights the most important aspects of healthcare: How will my family be taken care of and how much is it going to cost.

  • BeCovered.org — A grassroots campaign introducing the uninsured to the new health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act
  • Colorado Consumer Health Initiative — CCHI is a statewide, non-partisan, non-profit coalition of organizational and individual members, working to achieve barrier-free access to quality and affordable health care for all Coloradans.
  • Cost Calculator — by the Henry J. Keiser Family Foundation
  • EnrollAmerica — Enroll America is a nonprofit organization working to maximize the number of uninsured Americans who enroll in health coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act. It’s a collaborative organization, working with partners that span the gamut of health coverage stakeholders—health insurers, hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, employers, consumer groups, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, and philanthropies—to engage many different voices in support of an easy, accessible, and widely available enrollment process.

  • USA.gov — Learn about your health insurance options. Get information about private insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs to help you pay for your medical expenses.
  • Walgreens — Walgreens partners with Blue Cross Blue Shield to help you make sense of your health insurance options under Obamacare.
